Clientele

cropped-img_0344.jpgWho I See and What I Do:

I welcome men, women, and youths ages 16 and up. I am not currently seeing couples, children under 16, or families.

I often see clients who have experienced a traumatic event of some kind, or who have survived an abusive relationship. Quite often I see clients who are struggling against feelings of grief or loss. Many times I work with people who find themselves in a difficult transitional phase of their life, or who want to address school, job, or career related stress. Occasionally clients will be facing some combination of these factors.

Together we work through and identify what is going on and come up with solutions or find ways to manage difficult situations.

Sometimes we may discover that a past trauma is complicating things. We can often easily and relatively painlessly address and process these memories so that they are no longer intruding into the present. Alleviating the impact of trauma  often frees so much emotional energy that daily difficulties become mere challenges rather than feeling like impossible hurdles.

What I do NOT do:

I am not a “forensic” therapist. I am neither licensed nor trained to provide expert testimony. As an LPC/LMFT, I am restricted from providing an opinion in court. If I am subpoenaed to appear in court by a judge, I will charge an absorbanant fee which will not be covered by insurance, to be paid in advance of the appearance. There are at least three very good reasons for my reticence for a court appearance: 1) it severely stresses and potentially ruins the therapeutic relationship 2) because giving an opinion in court goes against the interests of the therapeutic relationship, it is prohibited by my licensing boards, 3) I am not good at it, and it stresses me out. I am a great therapist. I am a terrible legal witness. Trust me on this!
